About Me:
Shakeera Frazer, author of the novel “Fast Lane”, has known since she was eleven years old that she wanted to be a writer.Born in the Bronx, 26 year old Frazer joined the National Guard right out of high school so she could fulfill her educational dreams. With her innate love of fashion, Frazer initially thought that she might want to have a career in fashion merchandising and become a buyer, but she quickly realized that she was a writer at heart and really wanted to focus on that instead. Frazer graduated from Morgan State University with a Bachelors degree in Family and Consumer Science and a minor in Fashion Merchandising. After leaving Morgan State, Frazer went to the University of Maryland where she graduated with a Masters Degree in Education. After grad school, Frazer began teaching at an elementary school in Maryland. Although she loved the children she was teaching, she knew that it was not her passion and she really wanted to focus more on her writing. Once Frazer sat down at the computer, the writing just came. She had a story in her mind and knew that she had to get it down in print. The writing did not go in order. It seemed whenever she had an idea about a character she would write all that down and then conform it into the story. Her characters began to feel like real people and that is how she would talk about them. She would talk with her friends about the character as if these four women were also a part of her life. In a big way, they were. Going out with her friends would sometimes take second place to writing and finishing the novel. Frazer desires to create characters and situations that are relatable and real. She feels that some authors don’t create these types of situations, and therefore the reader really doesn’t get to know the characters as well as the author had intended. Frazer uses her unique style, her fashion sense, and real life experiences to give the reader a clear picture of who the character really is. The novel is inspired by friends and family and the stories she would hear. No one character is based on any particular person, but Frazer wanted the characters to feel real. Her novel is adult fiction with many elements of comedy, romance and suspense. Frazer herself has been influenced by many authors including Omar Tyree, author of “Flyy Girl” and Sheila Copeland author of the “Chocolate Star” series. Frazer hopes to inspire people as these authors have inspired her. “My love of writing and reading came at an early age,” says Frazer. “I love the books where you can just get lost in the story and the characters and never want to put the book down. I hope to do this with my own book.” Frazer is a unique writer that likes to include a lot of drama and action into the scenes of her novel. She uses a lot of dialogue as well, allowing the reader to know exactly how the characters are feeling and thinking. “Fast Lane” is currently available for sales at lulu.com You can learn more about Shakeera Frazer and “Fast Lane” as well as her upcoming works at www.shakeerafrazer.com

Feelings about “Precious” / PUSH

Feelings about “Precious” / PUSH
After seeing the film “Precious” based on the novel Push I had mixed feelings. I read the novel Push when I was 14 years old and in the 9th grade and I couldn’t understand what I was reading but I was fascinated. The issues brought up in the book were ones I had never heard of, couldn’t relate to, and were so different than what I was used to reading, but I was still intrigued. As I have gotten older and grown over the years I realized more and more what I was re… Continue

"Fast Lane" Excerpt.... another exclusive!!!!!!!

What is happening to my life? Crystal thought.

Even though her mother was in pain Crystal still loved her father deeply. She usually waited at the top of the steps for her father to come home at night. Crystal watched him come in the door, put his briefcase down in the corner, and hang up his long trench coat. He would walk into the living room and shake his head and look at her mother in disgust because she would be drunk and passed out on the couch. Crystal would just run to her room and cry.… Continue

"Fast Lane" Excerpt....exclusive!!

Trish had seen him at three other parties over the past few months. He was always with an entourage of people and surrounded by two or three body guards. She could never get to him. But last night he was alone and she was going to get him! He was at the bar in V.I.P and when Trish spotted him she left Nina, Paulette, and Crystal in an instant.

Trish walked over to V.I.P. and began to work her magic. She could feel all eyes on her as she glided across the room and she loved it. Trish was not you… Continue

HELP WANTED!!!!

Help Wanted!!!!!!

Almost every woman I know is unhappy with her relationship or can’t find their “Mr. Right”. They complain about constantly attracting the wrong type of men. The men they attract have kids with “Baby Mama Drama”, they lie, cheat, are unemployed, or have their priorities screwed up. Many of my female friends are in relationships that they know are not good for them and instead of leaving they stay and try to change their mate, this is wasting both their time and their mates time… Continue
